Mission Statement

Dietetic Internship Program 

The mission of the Winthrop University Dietetic Internship Program is to prepare competent entry-level dietitians for entry into the profession by providing applied professional experiences and to satisfy requirements for eligibility to take the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) examination for dietitians.

Program Goal #1

The program will provide supervised practice experiences in nutrition therapy for inpatients and outpatients, in wellness, education, consultation and in food and nutrition management which meet the eligibility requirements for the registration examination for dietitians established by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Objectives

1. Over a 5-year period, ≥80% of interns will take the Commission on Dietetic Registration credentialing exam for dietitians/nutritionists within 12 month of program completion.
2. Over a 5-year period, 80% of dietetic interns who begin the program will complete the program within 150% of the program length. (Program length = 8 months. 8 months x 150% = 12 months.)
3. Over a 5-year period, ≥80% of internship graduates responding to an alumni survey will answer “yes” regarding their preparedness for entry-level practice one year after DI program completion.
4. Over a 5-year period, ≥80% of DI graduates will pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration credentialing exam for dietitians/nutritionists within one year following first attempt.

Program Goal #2

The program will prepare graduates to be competent entry-level dietitians.

Objectives

1. Over a 5-year period, ≥ 80 % of Winthrop University dietetic internship (DI) graduates responding to the Alumni Survey will rate their overall level of professional competence in dietetic practice/management at or above 3.0 overall on a scale of 1 – 5 (high=5) one year following program completion.
2. Over a 5-year period ≥ 80 % of employers of internship graduates responding to the Employer Survey will rate the overall job performance of alumni as > 3.0 overall on a scale of 1 – 5 (high=5) one year post-graduation.
3. Over a 5-year period, ≥ 80% of DI graduates seeking employment will be employed in dietetics or related fields within 12 months of program completion.
4. Over a 5-year period, ≥ 80% of internship graduates responding to an alumni survey will answer “yes” regarding their preparedness for entry-level practice one year after DI program completion.
