The mission of the Dietetic Internship is to prepare competent dietitians for entry into the profession by providing applied professional experiences and to satisfy requirements for eligibility to take the national examination required to become a registered dietitian.
The Department is guided by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics's Code of Ethics, Standards of Education and Standards of Professional Practice. The Winthrop University Dietetic Internship is accredited by the Accrediation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics and meets or exceeds the needs for entry-level practitioners in the state, region and nation. Since South Carolina is a rural state with a large number of community-based hospitals, the program focuses on a diverse, general curriculum to meet the needs of both large and small facilities. The Dietetic Internship at Winthrop University provides students with the requisite skills and experiential background necessary to function as entry-level dietitians throughout the United States of America.
