Dr. Martin's background has been in 19th-century British literature and poetry, along with projects fusing her two passions, dance and writing. Her poetry has been published in journals such as Kansas Quarterly, Cimarron Review, Southern Poetry Review, and most recent, JAMA. Martin's first collection, The Luminous Disarray, was published in 1998, and a recent poem, "Labyrinth," was included in a book about the creative process titled Creating Spaces by Susan Zeder and Jim Hancock. She has been artistic director of For the Pleasure of Your Company, a nonprofit arts and healing organization, but now focuses her interest in expressive arts here at Winthrop and within the Rock Hill community. She and Winthrop students are now developing an arts in medicine program at Piedmont Medical Center with other community organizations.
