Dr. Rusinko, assistant professor of mathematics, received his B.S. in mathematics and German from Davidson College in 2001. After working as an actuary in Charlotte, N.C., he attended the University of Georgia, where he earned his Ph.D. in mathematics in 2007. Upon graduation, he joined the Department of Mathematics at Winthrop.
At Winthrop, Rusinko has taught a variety of courses ranging from "The Human Experience" to an introduction to elliptic curve cryptography. To help increase student mathematical engagement, he has been active in developing a student math organization better known as Nu Epsilon Rho Delta (NERDs). In summer 2010, he ran Winthrop’s first-ever Summer Research Experience in Mathematics, in which a group of 10 students spent four weeks developing their own cryptography research projects. In addition to this work, he has led a number of undergraduate research projects in math education, mathematical biology, and theoretical mathematics.
He is happily married and has three sons, all of whom are avid supporters of Winthrop athletics.
