Professor Hipp earned his B.S. in mathematics from Wake Forest University in the spring of 1995, and enrolled as a graduate student at the University of South Carolina the following fall. After finishing his M.S. in mathematics, he stayed on as a graduate student at USC-Columbia, taking graduate courses in computer science. After graduate school, Hipp taught geometry, algebra, and pre-calculus at a private high school. In fall 1999, he joined the faculty at York Technical College, where he went on to become the department manager of the Information Technology Department.
Hipp began teaching math courses at Winthrop in fall 2006, and joined the
Department of Mathematics as a full-time instructor in the fall of 2010. He teaches freshman-level mathematics courses, a discrete mathematics course that is required for computer science majors, and a mathematics course for education majors. In addition to teaching, Hipp administers the online Math Placement Exam and helps to maintain the department’s website. He also works as a math tutor for the
LEAP program, and he has taught the ACAD 101 course for first-time freshmen.
