Professor Collins earned an undergraduate degree in mathematics and psychology at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She worked as a systems analyst and a tax preparer before enrolling at Winthrop to complete an M.A.T. in secondary education (mathematics). She taught high school mathematics for more than 21 years and earned National Board Certification in secondary mathematics. During that time she worked with Winthrop in the preparation of teachers by mentoring interns and field experience students. In 2010, she joined the Winthrop faculty and is working with the Department of Mathematics and College of Education in their efforts to prepare teachers.
Collins and her husband have lived and worked in the Rock Hill area for more than 30 years. They have been involved in numerous community activities and are avid fans of athletics at the high school and college level.
