Dr. Brooks has worked in the Department of Mathematics since 1987 and served as chair of the department from 1998-2008. His work/consulting experience shows his broad background in applying statistics in a wide range of areas. He has worked as a senior statistician for the EPA Research Laboratory; for EPA-GBERL in Sabine Island, Fla.; and for EPA in Research Triangle Park in North Carolina. Brooks also has served as a research associate for the Radiation Effects Research Foundation of Hiroshima, Japan, and as a research mathematical statistician for the Biometry and Risk Assessment Program of the National Institute of Environmental Science in North Carolina. At present he enjoys developing new ways to present statistics to his students, including collaborative consulting on their research projects. Brooks' non-work activities include tennis, biking, racquetball, and working with youth in his church. He lives in Charlotte, N.C., and has two sons.
