Professor Altman graduated from Appalachian State University with an M.A. in math education in 1977. For the next seven years, she taught in Fayetteville, N.C., at the high school and technical school level. In 1985, Altman taught at Winthrop for York Technical College. Then, in 1986, she joined the faculty of Winthrop for one year until the birth of her first child. In 1999, she rejoined the Winthrop faculty as an adjunct faculty member and has been teaching, as needed, since that time. While at Winthrop, Altman also has taken several courses in computer science and accounting.
