A native of Newberry, S.C., Professor Emeritus Shealy is a graduate of Newberry High School and Newberry College. He attended a National Defense Education Program in French at Emory University, attended the University of Strasbourg, the Alliance Française in Paris, and the University of Dakar in Sénégal. Shealy started teaching French at Winthrop in fall 1962. He has attained Emeritus retirement status and continues to teach one French class each semester.
