Following completion of her degree in speech-language pathology, Professor Kea worked toward and attained the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She worked for many years with the speech-language disabled population in South Carolina in various locations, such as public schools, hospitals, speech and hearing centers, home health care, centers for the mentally and physically handicapped, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, and assisted living centers. She also worked for several years at the Human Development Center at Winthrop as a supervisor in the graduate-level clinical training program for speech-language students. In addition, Kea served as director of speech and hearing services for the school-age population. She has been working as an instructor in Winthrop's Department of Speech for four years.
