The Minor

Minor in English

The minor in English allows students in all majors to explore a wide variety of literature and authors over a broad time range. It also provides background in investigating, interpreting, and writing about literature.

For a minor in English, students must complete 18 semester hours in ENGL courses, including ENGL 300; six hours selected from ENGL 201, 202, 203, 205, 206, 207, 209, 210, 211; and nine hours in courses numbered above 299.

Minor in Writing

The minor in Writing allows students in all majors to pursue their interests in the craft of written expression, whether in a creative or a professional emphasis. Please note that students in the Writing Track of English may not minor in Writing.

In the creative emphasis, students must complete 18 hours from WRIT 307, 316, 350, 351, 507, 516, 530 (12-15 hours); WRIT 300, 500, ENGL 510 (3-6 hours)*

In the professional emphasis, students must complete 18 hours from WRIT 300, 350, 351, 465, 566, MCOM 341, 370 (12-15 hours); WRIT 307, 316, 500, 530, ENGL 303 (3-6 hours)

*If on an appropriate topic; consult your advisor or the Chair for procedures to get Topics courses to count in DegreeWorks.
