Finding Your Future Program
Program Opportunity at USC - School of Medicine
We are extremely pleased to offer this shadowing experience. If you are chosen from a select group of individuals, it is our hope that your time spent with us will fuel more of your fire to attend USC School of Medicine - Columbia and become a practicing physician.
Paramount to the program is your ability to participate in all of the dates for training and shadowing. Also of great importance, is your ability to clearly understand and adhere to the rules and regulations required to "shadow" on the USC/Palmetto Health Campus.
During the duration of the program, students spend one week in each of the following areas within the USC School of Medicine - Columbia: Family and Preventive Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Surgery. Within each department, you will have exposure to various aspects of the clinical arena, including procedures, patient interaction, and education.
Each department will provide students with a more detailed schedule for their specific rotation. Students will typically be shadowing from 8am—12pm and 1:30-5pm. During the week with surgery, students will be shadowing from approximately 7:45am—3pm.
Monday, June 5, 2017 at 9:00am in the Warren Derrick Conference Room at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital (7 Medical Park). Lunch will be served at 11:30am and then we will go to the Simulation Lab in 15 Medical Park for a tour and demonstration. On the last day of the program, Friday, June 30, students will meet for an evaluation and photo session along with certificate presentation.
There is no cost to the student for participation in the program. Students are responsible for their own housing.
