The Department of Biology is housed in the former Life Sciences Building, which was renamed Dalton Hall on April 26, 2010 in honor of Harry and Becca Dalton. The Daltons are generous donors to Winthrop University whose donations include a $1 million leadership gift to establish the Harry and Becca Dalton Endowed Chair in Environmental Sciences and Environmental Studies, and $1 million in planned gifts for the environmental sciences and studies program.

Resources available in Dalton Hall include:

  • a computer lab
  • an aquarium room
  • a herbarium/museum room
  • a student study area/lounge
  • eleven teaching laboratories
  • a microscopy suite for electron and optical microscopes

Additionally, the university owns a 325-acre research area with a large undisturbed wooded area and a 20-acre lake available for field study and field trips.
