In a dozen seasons as golf coach at Sumter and Fort Mill High Schools, Weldon compiled a 222-54 record. During those 12 years, his teams won three state championships, eight conference titles and 12 invitational tournament titles. Weldon-coached players during those years won five South Carolina Golf Association Junior Championships, two Carolina's Golf Association Junior Championships, and one United States Golf Association Junior Championship.
In his 12 years at Winthrop, Weldon's teams have won 15 tournament titles, including three Big South Conference championships. Individual players have won 38 tournament championships, including eight Big South crowns, and 47 Winthrop golfers have been named to All-Big South Conference teams. Winthrop players qualified for the USGA Public Links Championships in 1993, 1995, and 1997, and for the USGA Amateur Championships in 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1998.
Weldon is a native of Hartsville, South Carolina, and a graduate of Hartsville High School. An outstanding athlete in high school and college, he earned his undergraduate degree in physical education from Erskine College and a master's degree in guidance from the University of South Carolina.
Eddie's wife, Travis, chairs the Business department and teaches accounting at Fort Mill High School. They have two sons, Ken, who is in his first year at the Episcopal Seminary at the University of the South, in Sewanee, TN, and Matt, who is a professional musician in Charleston, SC. Eddie and Travis are also the grandparents of four-year-old Mary and Mims Matthews, daughters of Ken and Boo Weldon.
