Cid Carvalho Head Tennis Coach

    Cid Carvalho is in his 17th season in the Winthrop tennis program, and 16th as head coach of both the men's and women's teams.

    He has enjoyed a high level of success while at the helm of the Eagles, including five Big South women's championships, two women's runner-up finishes, one men's Big South championship, and five men's runner up finishes, and was named Big South Conference Women's Coach of the Year five times and Men's Coach of the Year once.

    In 2000 he took the women's team to its first ever NCAA tournament appearance. 

    The Sao Paulo, Brazil, native earned his undergraduate degree in 1981 from Winthrop in Physical Education. He also added a master's degree in the same field with a concentration in teaching/coaching in 1989. He also played number one for Winthrop. 

    Cid is a member of the USTA, USPTA, USPTR and USRSA. He is certified as a "High Performance Coach" by the USTA and certified as a "Specialist in Competitive Player Development" by the USPTA. He is also recognized as a "Master Raquet Technician" by the USRSA.
