Second Half Slump Leads To 76-63 Loss to UNCG

GREENSBORO, NC--Winthrop appeared to be ready to take control of its game against UNC Greensboro early in the second half, but then the Eagles fell victim to another shooting slump and dropped the non-conference game 76-63.

After leading 31-29 at halftime, Winthrop took a 46-40 lead five minutes into the second period when Bryant Latimer connected on a 3-pointer.  The Eagles led by five at 48-43 when Alasanne Bakayoko layed one in.  Then Winthrop went cold as UNCG  outscored the Eagles 15-2 over the next 5:22 to lead 58-50.  The Spartans led the rest of the way.

Winthrop, which shot just 31 percent for the game and 25 percent in the second half, placed three players in double figures, led by Marcus Stewart's 15.  Roger Toxey added 13 and Derrick Knox scored 10.  Latimer and Anthony Moore had career-highs with eight and nine points, respectively.

UNCG's David Shuck led all scorers with 21 while teammate Courtney Eldridge added 19 for the Spartans who shot 51 percent for the night.
