April 8, 2005
Background
In
February 2003, the University Faculty Conference voted
to approve a new general education program for
students earning baccalaureate degrees from Winthrop
University.
During the 2004-2005 academic year, Office of
Assessment personnel coordinated a preliminary
assessment of the Natural Science component of the new
general education program.
Core Natural Science Faculty Committee who planned the
April 8, 2005 Assessment Meeting
(faculty members were appointed by their respective
department chairpersons)

Follow
up to the April 2005 meeting
After
meeting participants reviewed a draft report and submitted revisions, a
finalized report was submitted to the Vice-President for Academic Affairs
and the Director of the General Education Program.
During Fall 2005, the Vice-President for Academic Affairs called a meeting
to review the report and recommendations made by natural science faculty
members during the April 8, 2005 meeting. Invited participants to the Fall
2005 meeting included the Director of the General Education program, the
Chair of the General Education Committee, the Director of the Office of
Assessment, the Assistant Vice-President for Academic Affairs and the
Natural Science Assessment facilitator, Dr.
Silagyirebovich.
