Undergraduate Scholars' Reception
The Sixth Annual College of
Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Scholars Awards Ceremony and Reception will
be held on April 26, 2008 in McBryde Hall . Students
who engaged in
undergraduate scholarship and/or presented their scholarship in the
2007-2008 school year
will be honored.
This year's
speaker will be Nancy Lamontagne, Winthrop alumna, Editor of Biophotonics International magazine, and Managing Editor of
Photonics Spectra and EuroPhotonics magazines.
Ms. Lamontagne graduated from Winthrop in 2000, with dual
degrees in Biology and Science Communication. She was
Editor-in-Chief ofThe Tattler in 1998-1999, Managing
Editor of The Johnsonian in 1999-2000, and winner of
The Herald's news writing contest for 1999-2000.
She was also a member of Beta Beta Beta, the national Biological
honor society.
Biophotonics
International is a magazine targeted mainly towards
biologists. It covers light-based technology used for
medical and biological applications. It has a circulation
of over 30,000 subscribers, 1/3 of which reside outside of the
U.S. Photonics Spectra provides worldwide
coverage of the photonics industry and reaches over 100,000
readers. Europhotonics is a bimonthly magazine that
covers European photonics products and research, with a
circulation of around 27,000 European readers.
