Message from the Executive Director

May 2017

Tuttle, Lori

Dear Alumni and Friends:

Welcome to the newest members of the Alumni Association, the Class of 2017! Nearly 700 graduates have joined a worldwide network of more than 60,000 active alumni. These alumni now will enjoy the Alumni Association member benefits, which are available to all alumni.

Alumni Chapters: Two new regional alumni chapters have been established in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Upstate South Carolina in an effort to connect and engage Winthrop graduates with their communities. If you live in these areas, we look forward to seeing you at an alumni event soon!

Homecoming and Reunion Weekend 2017: Save the date for Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, Nov. 17-18, 2017! The Office of Alumni Relations is inviting alumni authors to participate in our inaugural alumni author showcase on Friday, Nov. 17, during Homecoming and Reunion Weekend on campus. Whether you have written fiction, non-fiction, poetry or children’s books, we look forward to your participation! Participants in the alumni author showcase will have the opportunity to visit their alma mater and sign books for current students, faculty/staff and fellow alumni. The alumni author showcase will be held during the inaugural Homecoming on the Green event, which will be a family-friendly event to kick off Homecoming and Reunion Weekend with music, food and activities. Interested in participating? Email Lori Tuttle, executive director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving, at, by Friday, Sept. 15.

Alumni Awards: Each November, the Winthrop Alumni Association presents awards during the Alumni Awards Ceremony and Luncheon, held during Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, to alumni who have demonstrated Winthrop's tradition of excellence. The Honors and Awards Committee of the Alumni Executive Board reviews nominations and selects winners. Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2017 Alumni Distinguished Service Award, Alumni Professional Achievement Award and Outstanding Young Alumni Award.  Nominations can be submitted via the Awards Nomination form (pdf) via email to Lori Tuttle, executive director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, Aug. 25, 2017.

Winthrop Plan Receptions Continue: The Alumni Association is excited to host regional alumni receptions with President Dan Mahony as he introduces the Winthrop Plan, the university's strategic plan through 2025. See the calendar below to find a reception in your area. We hope to see you soon so that you can learn more about Winthrop's future!
