Admissions Counselor: Rebecca Whitehead

Hi! My name is Rebecca Whitehead, and I am an admissions counselor at Winthrop University.  I graduated from Winthrop with my B.A. in English in 2004 and my M.A. in English in 2006.

As a transfer student, my Winthrop experience began slightly different than most students.  Winthrop takes great efforts to make freshman feel at home, offering various community building activities and fun events.  As an incoming sophomore, however, I discovered other aspects of Winthrop that helped me to settle in.  The English department like most departments on campus provided me with professors, mentors, and friends that helped me make the transition to Winthrop as I continued my academic career.  Furthermore, they helped me find a place for myself on campus by introducing me to the many groups and organizations at Winthrop.  I even had many opportunities to create a place for myself out in the world as Winthrop supported my research by helping me to submit proposals to, attend, and present at numerous academic conferences around the United States.

Looking back over my college career, I know I made the right decision transferring to Winthrop University.  Winthrop’s small size creates a sense of community where students can find friends and professors that truly care about them.  Yet despite its size, Winthrop still manages to offer an array of degree programs, all of which are nationally accredited.  With the many groups and activities on campus, students can certainly not complain about a lack of things to do at Winthrop, yet the growing city of Rock Hill and the nearby city of Charlotte offer even more options.  If you are interested in learning more about Winthrop and all that it has to offer, please feel free to email me at whiteheadr@winthrop.edu or call at (800)WINTHROP.  I look forward to hearing from you!
