Welcome to
Winthrop. Compiling information over the web is a great
first step when beginning to think about where to attend
college. As an admissions counselor, my job is to answer
any questions you might have about Winthrop, share with you
the amazing experiences and opportunities available to
Winthrop students, and help determine whether Winthrop will
be a good fit for you.
My name is Michael Abel, and I’m originally from Greensboro,
North Carolina. I graduated from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2002 with a degree in Political
Science and obtained my master’s degree in Higher Education
Administration and Student Affairs from the University of
South Carolina in 2007. As a student at UNC, I wrote for
the school newspaper, swam on the club swim team, and
studied abroad in Spain the summer between my junior and
senior year. While at Winthrop, you too can participate in
similar activities or choose something totally different
from the wide array of clubs and organizations available on
campus.
I strongly encourage you to visit Winthrop to see first hand
why current students, faculty, staff, and alumni are all
excited to be part of this college community. Set in the
heart of the small but growing city of Rock Hill, SC,
Winthrop is a traditional college campus that allows for
students to easily walk from their residence halls to class,
the student union, or the library in minutes. A few miles
from campus, students will find an historic downtown and
only 20 minutes away, students can take part in all that
Charlotte, NC has to offer. Furthermore, Rock Hill is just
two hours from the mountains and three hours from the
beach.
Please email me (abelm@winthrop.edu)
or call me (800-WINTHROP) to learn more about the Winthrop
experience. I look forward to discussing with you what
makes Winthrop a great university. |
