Admissions Counselor: April Roach

Hi! My name is April Roach, and I’m an Admissions Counselor at Winthrop University. I graduated from Winthrop in May 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Marketing Communication.

When I was searching for a college, I wanted a school that was close enough to home without being at home. It needed to be larger than my high school but small enough for my professors to know my name and not my seat number. Most of all, it had to be a place I would be proud to tell my friends about. I found Winthrop to be all these things.

Getting involved in campus activities and with the Rock Hill community was one of the best decisions I made while at Winthrop. My participation in organizations such as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Winthrop Ambassadors allowed me to become friends with people I might not have known otherwise. Working in the local high schools and getting involved with a local church allowed me to develop relationships in the Rock Hill community as well.

Winthrop was also a great choice for me, because I wanted to experience life near a major city. I wanted to be able to take in some of the sights and activities that are only found in metropolitan areas. While at Winthrop, I attended shows, concerts, and museums and also had the opportunity to complete an internship in Charlotte for credit toward my degree. Rock Hill offered opportunities for entertainment with shopping, movies, local bands, and the various events Winthrop sponsored throughout the year.

Choosing a college is a big decision. It’s not just choosing where to take classes but choosing where you will live, learn, work, and play for the next four years. I would love to help you with your decision. Please call me at (800) WINTHROP or e-mail me at roacha@winthrop.edu if you have any questions.
