TENURE & PROMOTION TIMELINES FOR 2014-2015* 

*If a deadline falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the deadline will actually be the first Monday after the stated deadline.  The effective date for tenure and promotion is the beginning of the next appointment period.

2014

05/01
Deans notify faculty who are scheduled for tenure review during 2014-15.

Deans provide promotion intention forms to eligible faculty. (Deadline to return promotion intention form is June 2.)

06/02
Faculty members return promotion intention forms to Department Chairs, who sign the forms and return them to Deans.

06/16
With approval from Deans, Department Chairs appoint committees for tenure and/or promotion
review, if applicable.

07/01
Deans provide a list of tenure and promotion committee members to Office of Academic Affairs.

08/18
Deans meet with members of all tenure and promotion committees (department and college) to review policies and procedures.

09/01
Faculty submit tenure and/or promotion portfolios to Department Chairs.

Department chairs make portfolios available to departmental tenure and/or promotion committees.

Departmental tenure committees forward recommendations and portfolios to Department Chairs.

09/30
Department promotion committees forward recommendations and portfolios to Department Chairs.

10/01
Department chairs forward recommendations on faculty standing for tenure to respective Deans.

Deans forward portfolios and departmental recommendations to College Personnel Advisory Committees.

10/15
Department chairs forward recommendations on faculty standing for promotion to respective Deans.

Deans forward portfolios and departmental recommendations to College Personnel Advisory Committees.

11/05
College Personnel Advisory Committees forward recommendations on faculty standing for tenure to respective Deans.

11/17
College Personnel Advisory Committees forward recommendations on faculty standing for promotion to respective Deans.

12/01
Deans forward to the Office of Academic Affairs recommendations and supporting materials regarding all faculty standing for tenure.  (A list, including rank, is to accompany portfolios.)

12/15
Deans forward to the Office of Academic Affairs positive recommendations for promotion (a list, including rank for which promotion is sought, is to accompany portfolios).  Deans also notify the Provost of those who are not being recommended for promotion.  If a Dean disagrees with a positive recommendation in two consecutive years, the portfolio will be forwarded to the Office of Academic Affairs, unless the faculty member requests otherwise.

12/15
The Office of Academic Affairs forwards to Faculty Personnel Committee all tenure and promotion portfolios received from the Deans.

2015

01/15
Deans privately notify each faculty standing for promotion of his/her recommendation and the recommendations of the committee(s). 

02/02
Faculty Personnel Committee reports recommendations regarding tenure to the Provost.  Between February 1 and 15, the Provost meets with Faculty Personnel Committee to discuss recommendations regarding tenure.  The Provost also discusses recommendations with appropriate Dean.

02/16
The Provost forwards a report with recommendations regarding tenure to President.

03/02
Office of Academic Affairs sends lists of faculty who should stand for tenure in next academic year [2015-16] to deans; tenure to be effective following academic year [2016-17].

03/16
Faculty Personnel Committee reports recommendations regarding promotion to the Provost.  Between March 15 and 30, the Provost meets with Faculty Personnel Committee to discuss recommendations regarding promotion.  The Provost also discusses her recommendations with appropriate Dean.

Deans confirm with Office of Academic Affairs the names of faculty who will stand for tenure in next academic year [2015-16]; tenure to be effective following contract period [2016-17].

04/01
The Provost forwards a report with recommendations regarding promotion to President.

04/15
Deans notify in writing all faculty who will stand for tenure. Department, College, and University deadlines for submission of documentation will be shared with those standing for tenure and/or promotion.

05/15
By this date, the Provost notifies faculty in writing the awarding of tenure or notification of nonrenewal, with copies of letters to appropriate Deans and Chairs. 

By this date, the Provost notifies in writing those faculty who the Provost is not recommending for promotion, with copies of letters to appropriate Deans and Chairs.

By this date, the Provost notifies in writing successful candidates for promotion with copies of letters to appropriate Deans and Chairs. 

05/30
The names of faculty who have been granted tenure and/or promotion shall be submitted for publication.
